New Beginnings

Luke Chapter 5 holds the story of Simon Peter’s first encounter with Christ. Jesus asks to borrow Peter’s boat in order to teach the mass of people from the water. When He finished speaking, Jesus told Peter to go into deep water and put down his nets for a catch. Peter’s response gives me pause in that he seems to question what Jesus can and will accomplish for those that are simply obedient. He says, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

As we begin a new year, we embark on an important journey of faith. We must listen to the master as he calls us out into the “deep waters.” It may be a new classroom, a new teacher, new friends, or simply a new year. However, our response should always be of great faith and simple obedience in a God who would not call us into the deep waters without providing for us when we get there. Whether or not our nets are filled to bursting is entirely up to Him—our part is to obey: to be ready to push out from shore once more and see just what it is that He is going to do.

Already we are seeing the Lord’s blessings for our new school year. He has graciously brought us two new faculty members and three new staff members who I have no doubt will prove to be exactly what Heritage needs for our upcoming school year. Dr. Stacy Loyd will be joining us as our Elementary Academic Dean and Kindergarten teacher. She is an accomplished writer, researcher, and leader that has served Heritage in many capacities over the last decade. Mrs. Valerie Towne will serve in our yearbook and Secondary English departments. Mrs. Heather Smith will serve as our Communications Manager. Mrs. Nicole Bargen is our assistant to the Athletic Director as well as our new Front Office Assistant. Mrs. Rachael Auch will be our Preschool Aid and Kindergarten Enrichment instructor.

We are thrilled to have these additions to our Heritage family, as well as all of our new and returning families, students, staff, and volunteers. How our nets already overflow; and yet, I have a feeling that what we see is only the beginning of all that He longs to do in and through us. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
