Basketball at Heritage Christian Academy is unlike any team sport at any other school. Thug Thursdays, wacky Wednesdays, inside jokes, unity and most importantly Christ- like attitudes are apart of Heritage basketball.

The season this year went extremely well. Our team went to districts which is the furthest we have gone in three years. Our goal was to go to districts and we worked hard to make it there. We started practicing in the summer by going to basketball camps and having open gyms. We did everything to improve our skills and character. After losing so many times the past three years, we were determined to rebuild our basketball program into something extraordinary.

Students on the basketball team are more than just teammates. They become friends and family. We are connected by more than the love for basketball. We are also connected by our love for the Lord. Unity grew and flourished on our team. Every Monday we would have devotions lead by a different teammate. After devotions we would have a group discussion which improved our chemistry on and off the court. Being a student athlete can be stressful but after a stressful day at school it was a relief to come to practice and enjoy practice with my friends.

Another aspect that made basketball fun and exciting was Joe, our coach. Practices with Joe were never slow or boring. He always had a fun, new drill or game for us to play. Joe was all about making practices productive and fun at the same time. He would play techno music every Thursday while we played basketball dressed like thugs. But Joe was also serious about our improvement. He not only cared about making us great basketball players but he also cared about our spiritual and personal lives. He wanted to help and be apart of every aspect of our lives. Joe is more than a coach, he is a friend, mentor and like a big brother. We look up to him, Joe is a big part of Heritage sports.

Basketball at Heritage Christian Academy is a great way to grow in character, physical fitness and in God. It is not only fun but it builds character and gives you a family to lean on. Also it is a great stress reliever from the hectic student life. Basketball at Heritage is unlike sports at other schools.
